June 11, 2025

TheZTE Tempo Gohas just gone on sale onZTE’s official websitein the U.S. This makes it the first smartphone running Android Go to be available in the country. The unlocked phone costs $79.99 and standard shipping is free.

The ZTE Tempo Go was one of several Android Go phonesrevealed during MWC 2018. As an Android Go-based phone, it isn’t the most powerful device out there, but it should have more than enough power to run the various apps optimized for the platform.

The phone has a 5-inch display with a 480 x 854 resolution, a 5MP rear camera, and a 2MP selfie camera. It uses a quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor and has 1GB of RAM. In terms of storage, it comes with 8GB built-in and the option to add more via microSD card.

In case you need a catch-up,Android Gois a stripped down version of Android Oreo that has been designed to run on entry-level smartphones. All the phones come with nine pre-installed apps which are basically slimmed down versions of existing Google apps. These apps have been designed to work better than the full versions would on only 1GB of RAM, but they are also missing some features.

The main aim of Android Go is to provide affordable smartphones that work well to emerging markets where customers have less purchasing power. The U.S. isn’t really the target market of Android Go, so it will be interesting to see what demand for the ZTE Tempo Go is actually like.

Although, with a price point of only $79.99 and the latest version of Android, I’m sure ZTE will be able to find at least some takers.
