Alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus specs leak

It’s approaching the time whenXiaomi’s Mi 4 flagshipreaches its one-year anniversary and due a refresher and a new leak has purportedly revealed the specs ofXiaomi‘s next flagship. An image has popped up on Weibo claiming to show the specs of the Xiaomi Mi 5 along with the specs of the larger Mi 5 Plus model.
TheXiaomi Mi 5is expected to feature a 5.2-inch Quad HD LCD display, offering 2560×1440 pixels resolution and a density of 565ppi, which is one of the highest on the market (and only just beaten by the 577ppi offered by the Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge). Under the hood, the Mi 5 is expected to be powered by aSnapdragon 810 chipset, which is a somewhat strange choice given thepurported overheating issues with Qualcomm’s latest chipset.
On the back, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to have a 16MP rear camera – which will presumably record Ultra HD 4k video – while the front facing camera is a market-leading 13MP snapper. The Weibo post claims the 3000mAh battery will come with Quick Charge support and while it says that it will charge 30 percent in 40 minutes, this sounds like an error and the actual charge should be faster.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 will run onAndroid 5.1when it’s eventually launched and will have a recommended price of CNY 2,399 (~$386).
Moving on to theMi 5 Plusand the handset is likely to be a sequel to theXiaomi Mi Note Pro. The Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus will have a 5.7-inch Quad HD display like the Note Pro but the rest of the handset will have some big improvements.
Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus is expected to be powered byQualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 chipsetand the fact this chipset isn’t yet available suggests it’ll be a while until the Mi 5 Plus is available to buy. The Mi 5 Plus should have a 23MP rear camera withOptical Image Stabilisationand laser autofocus while the front facing 12MP snapper should be good for selfies and video calls.
Other notable specs of the Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus include a 3500 mAh battery that is said to take just 50 minutes to charge from 0% to 100%, LTE support and an all-metal body, although it’s unknown if the standard Mi 5 will have an all-metal build as well. The handset is also likely to run onAndroid 5.1 Lollipopand while the price hasn’t yet been revealed, it’s safe to expect it to retail for between CNY 2,799 (~$450) and CNY 3,299 (~$531).

The specs of both handsets are similar toprevious rumoursabout Xiaomi’s upcoming handsets although there are slight discrepancies, which means its worth treating this with a dose of skepticism. As with all rumours, things should get a lot clearer as we approach the launch of Xiaomi’s new smartphones.
