Android’s August 2016 security update is headed to Nexus devices

That’s right. This month’s update is looking a lot likelast month’sin that it has been split into two parts. The first security patch which  includes broad-level software fixes has been made available today, but a second patch is slated to arrive this Friday. The second patch is expected to have updates related to drivers andQualcommcomponents.

This month’s security update fixes a variety of vulnerabilities, but it appears that the Android dev team is getting to them before any known exploits pertaining to them have made it into the Android ecosystem. If you’re a non-Nexus user, well, you’ll have to rely on your phone’s manufacturer and carrier to get these security updates rolled out to your device. However, as a recent security expert pointed out,Samsung in particularis doing a good job keeping up with Nexus in this regard. Owners ofSamsung Galaxy S7andS7 edgedevices probably won’t have to wait very long.
