Are these the first photos of HUAWEI’s Mate 20X gaming smartphone?

July 02, 2025

The yet-to-be-unveiled HUAWEI Mate 20X may have been spotted out in the open. The gaming smartphone can apparently be seen in a couple of photos posted on Weibo recently (viaPlayful Droid) originating from China.

Huaweiteased theMate 20X on Twitterlast week but didn’t offer a look at the handset itself. The images suggest it will house a waterdrop-style notch and a triple rear camera setup, and may feature a unique body shape (though it’s probably just inside a case).

The Mate 20X is said to carry a 7.21-inch OLED display and — as this is a gaming phone from the Mate 20 series — you’re able to also expect a Kirin 980 chipset, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.

Meanwhile, HUAWEI’s tweet teased “#HigherIntelligence” and “#UltimatePerformance” from the Mate 20X.

HUAWEI is set to unveil the new smartphone at an event tomorrow alongside theMate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. you may hit the link to find out more on that, and let us know in the comments what you think of how the Mate 20X is shaping up.

Update:Soon after publishing this article, we came across another piece of leaked information regarding the Mate 20X. This speculation arrives from Twitter fan page HUAWEI Club (@ClubHuawei) and it suggests the Mate 20X will arrive with aGalaxy Note-like stylus.

HUAWEI Club seemingly got its hands on some promotional materials showing a display with three smartphones, believed to be the new Mate 20 range. The larger of these handsets, supposedly the Mate 20X, is pictured next to a stylus.

The stylus would certainly befit the smartphone’s large display, but it’s not traditionally a gaming peripheral. That said, a stylus could help in mobile games that require more accurate input — I’m thinking real-time strategy games or anything with small, interactive objects.

All of this remains in unconfirmed rumor territory for now, but we should learn all tomorrow.
