Feel the burn: A fix is likely coming soon for your overheating Samsung Gear S3
June 21, 2025
According tousers on Redditas well asSam Mobile, it appears thatSamsungis performing a slow rollout of a new Tizen update toSamsung Gear S3smartwatches. The update addresses a widely-reported charging and overheating issue.
After updating toTizen 3.0(the proprietary, Linux-based OS for Samsung smartwatches), some Gear S3 owners reported a troubling problem: Gear S3 watches would overheat while on the charger, never fully reaching 100 percent capacity.

Instead, watches would get to 90 percent charge, then begin overheating. Users could remove the watch from the charger to cool off, then place it back on the charger where it would then finally fill to 100 percent.
While not exactly a debilitating issue, it’s certainly not ideal for charging purposes, and the constant overheating could drastically affect the longevity of the watch.

It looks like Samsung is pushing a new 16MB update to Tizen 3.0 with a build update of R760XXU2CRG3 for theSamsung Gear S3 Frontierand R770XXU2CRG3 for theSamsung Gear S3 Classic. The changelogs for both updates mention adjusting battery-charging algorithms to address this overheating problem.
While many users worldwide are reporting receipt of the update, it is not clear if Samsung is, in fact, performing a full rollout. As such, it might be some time before you see the update. In the meantime, you’re able to manually check for updates on your Gear S3 by opening the Gear app and going toSettings > About Gear > Update Gear Software.
