Gain root on your HTCOne (M8) thanks to WeakSauce
June 11, 2025
The all new HTCOne (M8) has been up for pre-sales for a week, which has proven enough time to make a successful rooting tool. The tool is called WeakSauce, it will root yourVerizon HTCOne (M8)and was developed by jcase and beaupsover on the XDA Developers forums.
WeakSauce is aninstallable apk filethat should work torootthe VerizonHTC One (M7)andHTC One (M8), but may work on other HTCmodels as well. Not a bad start, considering the devs do not yet have a device of their own to test on. Once the devices ship, we can reasonably expect further hacking magic from these guys.

For now, WeakSauce “gains root, mounts a new xbin containing busybox, and su.” Once you’ve installed and run WeakSauce on your HTCOne (M8), you’ll still need to grabSuperSu from the Play Store. From there, the exploit only provides write access to /system/xbin. Also, do not rush into root activities after a fresh device boot, WeakSauce needs to re-root your device about a minute in after every reboot. Remember, this is just root, unlocking bootloadersand all that fun stuff will have to wait.
Unlike the new HTCOne (M8), users of the first HTCOne (M7), once rooted with WeakSauce, can gain s-off and unlock their bootloader by using another tool called firewater. firewater should work on most Qualcomm based HTC phones too.

Due to the complexities of each of the processes above, I highly recommend checking out ourrootinginformation before you get started. When you are ready to gain root on your fancy new HTCOne (M8), grab the apk and carefully follow all the instructions on theWeakSauce thread on the XDA Developers forums. For s-off on your HTCOne (M7), grab the firewater exploit and please carefully follow the instructions on thefirewater website.
What is your number one reason for wanting to gain root on your device?
