Galaxy Note 8 receives Super Slow Motion and AR Emoji update: user reports

Samsung is rolling out the September security patch for theSamsung Galaxy Note 8and, according to user reports spotted byXDA Developers, the update comes with two new camera features: AR Emoji and Super Slow-Motion video.

Rumors over the weekendsuggested that Samsung would roll out AR Emoji to Note 8 users. However, this is the first time we have seen evidence that Super Slow Motion could be rolled out too.

Both features were previously exclusive to theSamsung Galaxy S9andNote 9. AR Emoji lets userscreate animated emojisbased on their own facial features. These can then be shared on social media or in messages.

In terms of Super Slow Motion, the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 can shoot960 fps at 720p. While it is not clear whether this will also be the case with the Note 8 update, one user said the Super Slow Motion feature on his device shoots in 720p and looks the same as on the Galaxy S9.

Samsung has been proactive in bringing features from its newest devices to the Galaxy Note 8. As well as the camera updates, Galaxy Note 8 users have receivedvideo wallpapersandhome screen landscape mode. As Samsung flagships get more expensive, it is certainly nice to know that Samsung is doing its bit to keep slightly older devices relevant.

Of course, the September update will not come to all Galaxy Note 8 users at the same time. While the Reddit post suggests at least some users in France have received it, other commenters from the U.K. and Northern Europe say they have not.
