It’s not like the company is producing more models than last year, either. The firm offered the Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 in 2020, while 2021 will see the Pixel 5a and two Pixel 6 series phones. Nikkei‘s sources also claim that Google has asked its supply partners to produce over five millionPixel 5adevices. This would also exceed Google’s reported shipments for 2020. So it’s unclear whether this apparent request only applies to these two markets or if Google plans to launch the mid-ranger in more countries down the line.
The outlet adds that Google is specifically aiming to steal market share from Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi. All three brands have gained market share following HUAWEI’s US-induced slide.
