August 11, 2025

Update: July 04, 2025 (2:44  PMET):Google’sLive Captionfeature is a neat accessibility tool that utilizes AI to translate the audio from any media source playing on your smartphone to fast, accurate captions. So far, it’s been limited toPixel 4 and 4 XLdevices unless you wanted toroot your phone. But a recent post onRedditreveals that the feature can also be manually added to the Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL.

This didn’t land in an OTA orfeature dropor anything. Instead, you’ll need to download the Device Personalization Services APK from APK Mirror to get Live Caption on your Pixel 2. Once installed, you can turn it on by navigating to yourDevice Settings>Accessibility. Here you will find theLive Captionsetting under theAudio & On-Screen Textsection.

We don’t know whether Google will eventually push Live Caption out to Pixel devices or not or even which devices would get it. Even if it does, you don’t have to wait until then to try it out on your Pixel 2 device.

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL update

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL launched with Android Oreo in 2017 and have since been updated toAndroid 10. The phones are expected to receive one more major update as per Google’ssmartphone update policy, with official support ending in October 2020.

Google tends to update its Pixel phones with the latest Android version on the day it first becomes available. That means the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL should see Android 11 as soon as the final version rolls out. That’s expected around September 2020.
