Google’s Area 120 wants to give you things to do when you travel

June 26, 2025

Globe-trotting folks have often found themselves stuck in a particular area not knowing what to do with their time. When that happens, people must search the internet aimlessly trying to figure out what their options are.

Google’s experimental incubator Area 120 wants to change that with its new product,Touring Bird. The website — which is optimized for mobile use — is a hub of various activities one can do around the world.

Since the site just launched, there are some notable limitations to the service for now. The biggest one is that the site is entirely in English, so non-English speakers are out of luck so far. The second major caveat is that only certain places have listings; entire continents surprisingly aren’t represented, such as Australia and South America.

If you can look past those major limitations, the site is pretty neat. A tap onBarcelona, Spain, gives you the three most popular sights to see (Sagrada Familia,Park Güell, and theGothic Quarter) as well as a list of lesser-known things to do arranged by topic: tours and activities, local tips, free tours, and the ability to explore suggestions by other types.

While other sites likeAtlas ObscuraandLonely Planetprobably have most of the same information listed, Touring Bird lays it all out very simply, which is nice, and also offers more explicit search filters. For example, you may filter by price, time of day, and duration. You can even filter by cancelation policy, which is awesome because lots of tourist places will hide that policy in hard-to-find places.

If you’re traveling soon, give Touring Bird a look to see if there’s something that might interest you!
