Heads Up! You can have Android L’s new floating notifications now
June 24, 2025
There have been a few root only implementations of Google’s new heads up floating notification style, but non-rooted users can now get in on the fun. Heads Up! is the name of the app that makes it possible. Head on over to theXDA-Developers listing to snag it for free, or hit the Google Play Store to drop$0.99 in support of the developer.
There are a great many things that Google introduced atGoogle I/Othis past week, chief of which for many is related toAndroid Land the newMaterial design. One fancy feature thatAndroid Lwill be bringing us is newly designed notifications. The notification will float near the top of the screen, and pops up over top of any application, even if in full screen immersive mode.

As is the case with any feature in Android, if it doesn’t come stock, a developer makes it happen as a third party app or module. This was the case with aXposed moduleandother root only tools. Until now. Heads Up! does not require root and is ready to install on your Android 4.3+ device today.
Heads Up! has a simple set of powerful settings. You can configure how long to display the notification, whether to ignore persistent notifications, open associated app with a double click and lock it to only show notifications when infullscreen mode.

In addition to the above settings, Heads Up! allows you to specify a whitelist of apps that you desire to use the floating notification tool. This can be great for hiding thoseSecretnotifications and bringing forward thosework emails, or whatever your situation dictates.
As mentioned, Heads Up! is free if you grab it straight from the developer over on theXDA Forums, or show them some love by getting the identical version for$0.99 in the Google Play Store.
I know you are a fan of getting tomorrow’s tech today, is the floating notification a feature you are eager to get your hands on?
