HUAWEI follows Samsung, teases display with circular camera cutout

July 25, 2025

It feels like just the other day that we saw the first Android phones with notches. Since then, we’ve seen companies adoptslider designsand othereclectic form factorsinstead. Now, it looks like circular camera cutouts are the next step in the march towards a true bezel-less design.

Huaweihas posted a teaser of a phone with a circular camera cutout on itsWeibo page, with the camera “island” in the top-left corner of the screen. The teaser image also seems to reference the month of December. HUAWEI has since toldThe Vergeit would reveal more information on December 3.

A teaser for a HUAWEI phone with a circular camera cutout.

Earlier rumors suggest the phone could be the HUAWEI Nova 4, although it would be a rather quick turnaround time for this. TheNova 3was only launched in July, so December would be less than six months after the previous device.

We don’t know much else about the new phone, but apurportedly leaked photoshows a device with the aforementioned camera cutout and aheadphone jack. The Nova series is usually an upper mid-range offering, so we’re expecting either aKirin 980orKirin 710chipset, as well as a rear-facing dual-camera setup. There’s only one camera cutout in the teaser image, so we’re not expecting the Nova 3’s dual selfie camera pairing.

It’s not the first time we heard about this type of camera cutout either, as Samsung confirmed it was working on the technology (calling it an Infinity-O display). Furthermore, serial Samsung tipster Ice Universeclaimsthe first phone with an Infinity-O display will be the Galaxy A8S.

We do have to wonder how long HUAWEI and Samsung will stick with this solution. It seems like the next logical step is to add a camera under the screen (Samsung has already confirmed its work in this area). But the technology isn’t quite ready for prime-time just yet.
