HUAWEI P20 Pro too expensive? Say hello to Samsung’s new triple camera phone

June 10, 2025

Samsung hasunveiledthe 2018 version of the Samsung Galaxy A7 and it is the first phone from the company to get a rear triple camera.

Rumorshave long since suggested this feature was set to make an appearance on a mid-range Samsung phone and it’s undoubtedly the phone’s main selling point. Currently, the only other major Android OEM with a triple camera is theHUAWEI P20 Pro. Although, it is thought that LG will unveil theLG V40with a triple camera in October.

Samsung Galaxy A7

On the Galaxy A7, the triple camera setup consists of an 8-megapixel 120-degree ultra wide angle lens, a 24-megapixel main lens, and a 5-megapixel depth lens. This will allow users to take regular and wide angle pictures, as well as portrait mode pictures with a bokeh effect. There isn’t an optical lens for zoom, however.

Scene Optimizer — a feature Samsung first introduced on the flagshipGalaxy Note 9— also makes an appearance on the Galaxy A7. This tech can automatically recognize what the camera is looking at and adjust the camera settings to match. The selfie camera setup also sounds pretty powerful. It consists of a 24-megapixel lens with an LED flash, capable of taking bokeh-effect photos and creatingAR Emojis.

The phone’s other specs are decent for a mid-range device. It has a 6-inch AMOLED FHD+ Infinity Display, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of storage. The battery is 3,300mAh, and there is also NFC which means services like Samsung Pay will work on the device.

Earlier this year, Samsung’s head of mobileDJ Kohpromised to bring innovative features to its mid-range devices. By equipping the Galaxy A7 with a triple camera, it appears to be doing just that.

Samsung says that the Galaxy A7 will be available in select European and Asian markets this fall and that it will be coming to other markets in the future.

As of now, there is no news about the price, but this isn’t part of Samsung’s flagship lineup and will likely to cost something similar to the A7’s predecessors: expect something in the region of $400-$500 (the P20 Pro launched for roughly $1,050). It’s coming in four colors, blue, black, gold, and pink.

This is not the only mid-range phone that Samsung is expected to release in fall. The company is holding anevent on October 11which rumors suggest will see the appearance of another new Galaxy A series device with four cameras.

Next up:Samsung to bring innovation and new features to Galaxy A series first, but will it be enough?
