HUAWEI taking Samsung to court over patent infringement… again
July 17, 2025
Earlier this year sawHUAWEI pointing a litigating finger at Samsungover alleged patent infringements on 4G technology and software interface. The next day, Samsung threatened to counter-sue the Chinese smartphone maker, leading some to wonder whether or not the next big patent war would be between HUAWEI and the Korean tech titan. That may well be the case, as we’re seeing HUAWEI level yet another lawsuit at Samsung.
This information comes to us viaSina News, which is reporting that HUAWEI is taking Samsung Electronics to court over patent infringements present in theGalaxy S7, theGalaxy S7 edge, and theGalaxy J5. Although it’s not yet clear what technology HUAWEI is pointing to in this case, it could be related to a patent granted to HUAWEI in 2011 involving technical solutions for terminal displays. The Chinese smartphone maker reportedly conducted extensive investigation on these three devices under the supervision of the court and they believe Samsung copied their patented functionality.

Neither Samsung nor HUAWEI have released formal statements regarding this most recent legal dispute, although a Samsung spokesperson has said that the company would “thoroughly review the complaint” and take whatever actions were deemed appropriate.
This lawsuit comes right on the tail ofHUAWEI taking T-Mobileto court over 4G related technology, although some believe that the legal complaint regarding T-Mobile is a strategic move on the part of the Chinese company to get T-Mobile to back off of a separate case involving pilfered robotics technology. While we wait around to see how this shakes out, let us know what you think of these patent lawsuits in the comments below. A necessary evil or a waste of time and money? Give us your take!
