LG confirms rollable phone, V60 successor won’t be developed ‘any further’

July 22, 2025

LGannounced that it would beshuttingits loss-making smartphone business this week, which means theLG V60andLG Wingare the last high-end smartphones released by the company. But LG was also working on a rollable phone project and was widely believed to be working on a V60 successor code-named Rainbow.

It seems obvious that these devices will no longer see the light of day, and LG has now confirmed as much toAndroid Authority.

“Not sure how authentic those images are but neither device will be developed any further,” an LG representative told us when we asked about the fate of these devices and purported images of these phones which recently appeared online.

Twitter tipster FrontTron (h/t:XDA-Developers)posteda picture purportedly from Korea’s telecommunications regulatory body, showing the rollable phone in all its glory. Check out the image below.

We don’t see a fully extended display here or the right-hand side of the device where the screen slides out. But we do see the bezels at the top and bottom, presumably hiding the rail mechanisms for smoothly extending and retracting the screen. We can also make out a gap in the top bezel which would presumably be for the selfie camera, along with what looks like an earpiece on the same bezel.

Unfortunately we don’t know much else about the rollable phone such as the processor, camera details, battery capacity and more. But the fact that the device made its way to a regulatory body suggests that a launch wasn’t far away at all.

The tipster alsopostedan image apparently showing the LG Rainbow orV70flagship, and we see a device that adopts theLG Velvet‘s design philosophy. You can see it below.

LG’s unreleased flagship seemingly offers a rainbow-style shimmer for the white back (perhaps a nod to the Rainbow code-name?). But there are few other major differences between this device and the Velvet.

The rear cameras jut out slightly compared to the previous phone’s flush modules, while the secondary rear cameras are bigger than the Velvet’s secondary lenses too. It’s unclear what the third camera could be used for, as the Velvet offered a depth sensor while previous LG flagships offered a telephoto sensor if they had a third camera.

Do you think LG should’ve released these phones even if they didn’t get long-term software support? Let us know by taking the poll below.

Do you think LG should still release the V70 and rollable phone?
