LG trademarks hint at folding phone name ahead of potential January reveal
August 17, 2025
We all know a bit aboutSamsungandHuawei’sattempts to develop afoldable phone. However,LG’s planshave been flying under the radar. So far we have heard very little about the device, which makes three recent LG trademarks that appear to relate to foldable phones all the more exciting.
As spotted byLetsGoDigital(viaEngadget), the company has applied to trademark the names Flex, Foldi, and Duplex. LG made the applications on November 21 at the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

We don’t know for sure if these names relate to foldable phones, though the category LG made the filings includes smartphones. Considering we know LG is developing a foldable phone, it seems pretty likely that this is what the trademarks relate to.
Of course, even if the names do relate to phones, it doesn’t mean one of them will be used for the final device (if that were the case, we’d all be familiar with theLG G Edgephone and its Super Edge display by now).

None of the names the company is trying to trademark are especially noteworthy (kinda like the ones HUAWEI isreportedlyconsidering), though Flex seems like a reasonable possibility for the device given that LG has already established theG Flexbrand name. This was used for flexible smartphones of another kind, so Flex seems like an appropriate name for a spiritual sequel.
The only other rumors we have about the LG phone come from Evan Blass, who recentlysuggestedthe company will unveil its first foldable device at CES 2019 in January. Interestingly, this was also the launch place for the LG G Flex 2. Samsung and HUAWEI are tipped to launch their flexible phones in Feburary at the earliest; imagine LG beats them to the punch.
