Nexus 6P receives performance-improving update

June 06, 2025

Following the release of a surprise performance-enhancingupdate for the Nexus 5X, Google has now released a similar patch for the Nexus 6P.

Rolling out as an over the air update right now, the update brings the build number to MHC19I. As per Nexus community manager Orrinon Reddit, the change log for the update is very similar to the change log for build MHC19J that kicked off earlier for the Nexus 5X. Changes include:

Nexus 6P January security update resized

Now the Nexus 6P was already very smooth for most users, but for some users lag occurred after a period of using the device, possibly due to RAM management issues. According tofranco.Kernel developer Francisco Franco, the update rolling out today may further improve performance – and potentially squash lag-inducing bugs – through a number of tweaks, including the increase of the internal kernel tick rate of the kernel from 100 to 300 MHz.

Bottom line, if you experienced any performance problems with the Nexus 6P, there’s a chance this update will end your frustration.

Note that build MHC19I includes theMarch security updateon the Nexus 6P.

The OTA update file for build MHC19I (from MMB29Q) isavailable here, and you may also flash the full image that you can downloadfrom here.

Of course, the bigger news of the day is the surprise release ofAndroid N previewfor modern Nexus devices (sorry, Nexus 5 users). We’ve rounded up all the main new features from Android N in ourDiving into Android N series, so make sure to check that out for the scoop on Android 7.
