nubia X looks stunning with smartly-integrated secondary display

July 14, 2025

nubia has announced its dual-screen smartphone, thenubia X. The handset recently popped up on the company’sofficial website, where nubia outlined everything the smartphone has to offer.

The big selling point of the Snapdragon 845 chipset-wielding smartphone is its secondary, touchscreen display. This 5.1-inch screen is built into the unit’s rear with 1520 x 720 resolution (19:9 aspect ratio). This compliments the main 6.26-inch FHD+ display on the front of the device, which has 2280 x 1080 resolution (19:9).

The secondary display features essentially the interface as the front one, though it has some extras. It can be customized with a variety of pictures and signatures (seen above), and can act as rear touch controls when playing games. It also comes with a software blue light filter for more comfortable night-time reading (there’s even a physical blue-light filter component arriving in the Ocean Blue and Blue and Gold models).

As well as two displays, the nubia X comes with two fingerprint sensors — one on each side of the handset. You can use these as home and back buttons, as well as to swap between the front and rear displays.

The nubia X arrives with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB ROM depending on which model you pick up. nubia’s phone also offers a 3,800mAh battery with USB Type-C connector and Quick Charge 3.0. As for photography, the phone features a dual 16MP (f/1.8) + 24MP (f/1.7) rear camera with AI support, though it lacks a front camera. The rear display should assist you with selfies and video calls as if you were using a smartphone with a front-facing camera.

It’s launching with Android 8.1 Oreo rather than the newerAndroid Pie, and is going on sale in Chinastarting at 3,299 Chinese yuan(~$475).

Hours before the announcement, leakerIce universe(@UniverseIce) posted a video showing off the handset. The near bezel-less smartphone can be seen in a metallic blue color with its secondary screen camouflaged into the phone’s back plate until activated.

The way the display appears and disappears is impressive — at a glance, it looks like it’s completely concealed in the device. It’s a unique and interesting prospect but, disappointingly, it’s unlikely to be officially sold in western markets.

The nubia is coming in Ocean Blue, Blue and Gold, Black and Gold, and Deep Gray. It’s shipping November 5.
