Oh, it’s on: Redmi starts advertising fight with OnePlus using billboards

TheXiaomi Redmi K20 Prois the latest powerhouse from the brand, featuring theQualcomm Snapdragon 855chipset, a pop-up camera, an all-screen notch-less display, and a cool selection of colors.
If all that sounds familiar, it’s because the same terms could be used to describe the latest flagship from another Chinese company: theOnePlus 7 Pro. If there were any doubt thatRedmiwas going straight afterOnePluswith the Redmi K20 series, there isn’t anymore, as the company is now engaged in a “billboard beef” with OnePlus.
The image above shows an Indian billboard ad for the OnePlus 7 Pro, featuring Robert Downey Jr., the company’snew international spokesperson. Next to that billboard is an ad from Xiaomi that directly digs at OnePlus.

The Redmi billboard uses several “classic” OnePlus design trends to further its attack. The red-and-white color scheme is a OnePlus hallmark, and the “flagship killer” branding has been used by OnePlus ever since it started with theOnePlus One. Additionally, the word “one” in the billboard’s statement of “Starkly superior to the latest one” is written in the same font as the OnePlus logo (Google’s ownLato, if you’re interested).
Manu Kumar, the Global Vice President at Xiaomi, is particularly proud of this billboard beef. He posted the photos aboveto his Twitter accountasking his followers to send him selfie pics of themselves standing in front of the billboards should they come across them.
The Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Prohaven’t yet launched in India, and Redmi hasn’t disclosed Indian pricing yet.Based on Chinese pricing, though, the Redmi K20 Pro will be substantially less expensive than the OnePlus 7 Pro in the country.
