According to the Chinese brand, OxygenOS 5.1.9 will deliver improved clarity, better dynamic range, and more accurate edge detection in portrait mode. OnePlus says the new update will also improve focusing speeds and accuracy too.
The new update will also enableGoogle Lenssupport within the OnePlus 6 camera app. This means you can simply launch the camera app to access Google’s machine vision tool which is capable of recognizing objects and landmarks in the viewfinder.

The manufacturer confirmed that theOnePlus 5andOnePlus 5Twill get Google Lens in the camera app via a firmware update “soon.”
Room for improvement
In hisOnePlus 6 review,Android Authority‘s Andrew Grush felt the new phone represented a major upgrade over the OnePlus 5T when it came to low-light performance, but the quality gap was much smaller with daytime snaps.
“The OnePlus 6’s photos look much sharper in low-light that the 5T, though there’s some oversharpening around the edges. Colors are more natural, and you’re able to discern more details. The difference is particularly visible at full-size crop, where pictures are less smudgy,” Andrew wrote.

“In better lighting there is still improvement, but the differences between the OnePlus 6 and 5T cameras are much less noticeable,” he added. With this latest update, OnePlus is clearly looking to solve a number of camera issues raised in our review and by the OnePlus community.
We’re also glad to see edge detection improvements in the portrait mode, because Andrew felt the mode “wasn’t exactly great.”
All in all, it’s clear that OxygenOS 5.1.9 should bring a substantial upgrade in photo quality to the OnePlus 6. While it may still struggle to reach the ludicrously high standards set by theSamsung Galaxy S9,Google Pixel 2, andHUAWEI P20 Pro, OnePlus 6 owners will no doubt be happy that OnePlus still sees room for improvement on what is already an excellent phone with a solid camera.
The update is scheduled to start rolling out today, but you can find more information on the OnePlus forum post overhere.
