Rumor: Xiaomi is working on its own Note Edge

July 03, 2025

When it comes to notable Notes, few would argue the notoriety and noteworthiness ofSamsung’s Galaxy Note line. It arguably gave birth to the phablet genre, definitely saw the premiere ofan Edge Display, and continues to captivate the masses with leaks even today. Still, it is not theonlyNote to note, as Xiaomi has its own product line as well, theXiaomi Mi Note. Rumors about a new installment have been circulating for some time now, but today’s may be the most interesting yet.

A report out of China is indicating that there will be a titanictrioof smartphones to sell. One will be a standard model, one a more premium variant, and lastly one the supreme selection, packing an Edge Display, no less. More specifically, the break down is as follows, according to the rumor:

vivo Xplay5 teaser

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 “Standard” variant will have a single rear camera, a Hi-Fi audio chip, and “standard” quick charging. Previous reports suggest it will have a 5.7-inch FHD display and 4GB of RAM.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 “High” variant will have a pair of dual cameras on the back side, a Hi-Fi audio chip, and “super quick charging”. Previous reports suggest it will also have a 5.7-inch FHD display. but pack 6GB of RAM.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 “Premium” variant will have a curved edge display, a top-end Hi-Fi audio chip, and “super quick charging”. GizmoChina estimates this variant would have a 5.7-inch QHD display and 6GB of RAM.

While no concrete details are available, the phones are expected to launch later this year and – at least with the Edge model, presumably cost a pretty penny, something that could ultimately “backfire”as HUAWEI may be noticing these days.

Curved creations

While today’s Weibo-sourced rumor does not go into detail as to if a dual edge display will be used or just a single one – like the original Galaxy Note Edge – that a Samsung rival would be seeking to release such a product should not come as a surprise. AMOLED costs are going down, and Samsung is eager to sell more of them to increase its own revenue. There have already been some rival products released with curved OLEDs, including last year’sBlackBerry Priv, and the morerecently announced vivo XPlay 5.

Earlier this yeara report from China indicatedthat, in addition to vivo, both HUAWEI and Xiaomi would also be getting into the curved AMOLED game, thus today’s news – assuming it pans out – would only serve to further legitimize the earlier rumor.

What do you think? Does the world need two Notes with Edge Displays in 2016? Some would argue that Samsung, ironically enough, is the company that doesn’t need one, especially now thatnew news suggeststhere may be no standard Note to release at all.
