August 07, 2025

Reportsat the end of January suggested that Samsung has filed a trademark for a social media service called “Uhssup.” While not much was known about the service at the time, it was expected to be a location-based social media network.

Despite their still not being much more known about the service, reports from Korea today suggest that the app could come loaded on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9.

According to Korean siteHeraldCorp, “Uhssup” will let users share their location in real time and comment on the locations of other users. The service is also expected to have messaging capabilities similar to those found on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.

Additionally, while previous leaks had shown that Samsung had registered the name “Uhssup” with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, theHeraldCordreport suggests that they had registered both “Uhssup” and “Samsung Social” in the domestic Korean market.

As well as the leaks, there have been other clues that Samsung may have been planning something like this. In fact, in theofficial Samsung announcementof the Galaxy S9, the Korean company promised to not only “reimagine the camera,” but also to “redefine the way you share your moment.” Perhaps the new social network is what Samsung was hinting at?

Samsung has slowly been building their native app ecosystem with apps like Samsung Pay, the Samsung Cloud, and Samsung Pass becoming popular. Samsung may hope that “Uhssup” will be similarly successful and potentially help in spreading these services.
