Some Pixel users report dead sensors after Android 10 update

July 12, 2025

TheGoogle Pixelseries is renowned for getting Android updates before virtually all other devices, but it seems like a few Pixel users are reporting a major issue after updating toAndroid 10.

Several Pixel users have reported dead sensors on theGoogle Issue Tracker,XDA forum, and thePixel Phone Helpforum. Affected features include the Active Edge functionality, auto-rotate, auto-brightness, double-tap to wake, and lift-to-wake.

Some Google Pixel 3 XL users are reporting issues with Android 10.

Users are reporting the problem on thePixel 3 XL, but at least one user has reported the issue on their first-generation Google Pixel.

“When I make a phone call, the screen goes dark and no swiping or pressing of the power button brings the screen back on. If the call goes to voicemail, you’re able to’s see the dial pad to respond to prompts,” reads an excerpt of thePixel user’s complaint.

The issue seems to affect the devices regardless of whether users updated via OTA or flashed to Android 10. This suggests that the problem might not be related to a specific installation process.

According to affected users, downgrading toAndroid Pieis one of the few ways to get the sensors working again. The issue doesn’t seem to be widespread right now, but you might want to think about holding off on the update until Google issues any response to the matter.
