Sony Xperia 5 II specs leak: A smaller flagship, but is it compact?
Jun 07, 2025
TheSony Xperia 5 IIis likely launching next month, but a new leak has left very little to the imagination. Per anAndroid Headlinesexclusive, the next smartphone from the Japanese firm could be one of the few smaller flagship options in 2020.
Aesthetically, it’s reminiscent of theXperia 1 II, including those noticeable top and bottom bezels and a headphone jack at the bottom. The latter’s a good thing for audiophiles, considering theprevious Xperia 5ditched the ubiquitous jack.
What isn’t good news is the phone’s dimensions. The Xperia 5 II could be similar to its predecessor, a device we felt was just too tall to be practical. Its rumored 158mm x 68mm x 8mm measurements are narrower than the compact Samsung Galaxy S10e, but it’s around 10mm taller.
Moving to the screen, the Xperia 5 II will reportedly employ a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Sony is said to be adding 120Hz display refresh rate tech to that too, while it may also include a 240Hz sample rate. This combo could be a boon for mobile gamers looking for an expansive and responsive screen.

The report also details Sony’s choice of internals. The standardSnapdragon 865is reportedly in use, not the beefier Plus version. It should still signal the introduction of 5G, though. Expect 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage as well, while the latter can apparently be bolstered by a microSD card.
Sony will reportedly continue its focus on imaging, too. There are three snappers at the rear according to renders. This array may be headlined by a 12MP primary snapper alongside a 12MP 3x telephoto lens. Another 12MP camera may also feature for ultra-wide shots. Videographers will reportedly gain 4K HDR video recording up to 120fps with OIS and EIS both made available. There’s no word on the selfie camera’s specs.
While a 6.1-inch screen is by no means compact, it would make the Sony Xperia 5 II one of the smaller flagships we’ve seen in a while. Considering just how many people would welcomea new compact Samsung flagship, Sony might be on to something with this one.
The leak failed to mention a price or availability details, but it’s likely that the phone will be announced atSony’s September 17 eventand not at IFA 2020.
