The 2017 Moto Z2 Force is now 5G-capable thanks to the 5G Moto Mod
July 08, 2025
If you own the over-two-years-oldMotorola Moto Z2 Force, congratulations: the devicejust became 5G-capable.
However, in order for your Z2 Force to connect to 5G networks — if you even live near any active ones — you’ll need to pony up for the5G Moto Mod, which costs a hefty $350. You’ll also need to be on theVerizonnetwork to use the Mod.

If you’re willing to jump through those hoops, the Motorola Moto Z2 Force is ready for the future of wireless.
Originally, Motorola launched the 5G Moto Mod as an exclusive for theMoto Z4, the “flagship” device from the company at the time.Shortly after, the company announced the Mod would also work on the Moto Z3. It was months later before the companyconfirmed the Moto Z2 Force would also work with the Mod, and here we are, with the company fulfilling that promise.
What’s interesting now is that you may grab a Verizon-branded Motorola Moto Z2 Force for hefty discounts:on Amazon, the device is just $215. If you buy that, add it to a Verizon account, and thenbuy the 5G Moto Mod, you’ve effectively spent just $565 for a 5G smartphone, which is much less thaneven the cheapest of 5G phonesavailable today in the United States.
Of course, as stated earlier, you would need to live in a 5G city to take advantage of that — and even then, you’d need to be in very specific spots in that city to see any connectivity.
