Two-year-old Moto X Pure Edition might now be receiving Android 7.0 Nougat [Updated]

Though it transpired that those updates were limited to only a handful of users, we’re nowfairlycertain that it’s rolling out proper. Recent comments onReddit, theXDA forums, and theLenovo forums(viaAndroid Police) would suggest so, meaning the handset is now receiving what will undoubtedly be its last major update. Look out for the OTA soon if you haven’t encountered it already.
Original coverage, September 28:It was March when we first heard about the possibilities of aMoto X Pure Edition Nougat updatein the US. Motorola had just sent out emails inviting customers into a private soak test where they could provide feedback on the software before it was fully rolled out.
Later in April, we (preemptively)announcedthat Motorola was pushing out that update, having come across itsupdated Mobile Support page with details of the rollout. Today, we’ve learned that Motorola might actually, finally, be rolling out the official update in the US.
The news arrives viaAndroid Police, which claims that a number of Moto X Pure Edition owners are now taking to social media to announce that they’ve received the update. Reportedly, this is the first update that some owners have received in a year, including security patches, and it brings the device up to Android 7.0.
I’ve had a quick scout around various social pages and there are still some X Pure owners saying theyhaven’t received said update yet.This would still make sense if it’s in the early stages of its rollout — it isn’t likely to reach everybody for another few days. All the same, I don’t want anybody to get their hopes uptoo highjust yet. We’ll be keeping an eye on it, and I’ve reached out to Motorola for more info.
The Moto X Pure Edition, known elsewhere as the Moto X Style, was released back in September 2015, and it’s a smartphone we werevery fond of. It’s a shame, then, that this stop-start upgrade to Nougat — no doubt the last major Android update it receives — will perhaps leave a bad taste in people’s mouths.
