What’s coming to Google I/O and how to reserve your seats

From the launch of .app domain names to exciting announcements regarding Android TV, Wear OS, and Google Photos, take a sneak peek at what Google has in store for us!
This year’s Google I/O is just 27 days away, starting on May 8 and ending on May 10. The company has exciting announcements in store, including Keynote Sessions during which attendees get a chance to look at how Google’s technology can impact the world around us as well as Office Hours, App Reviews, and Codelabs. Before we dive into Google’s updated I/O schedule, here is how to reserve seats for Sessions in advance of I/O as confirmed attendees:
While the full schedule won’t be released until after the main event on May 8,the updated schedule on Google’s websiteoffers us a glimpse of what to expect from this year’s Google I/O.
Android TV – May 8 at 3 PM on Stage 8
Sascha Prueter from Google will be speaking about “recent system enhancements, new features for developers, and how the [Android TV] platform is evolving.”
.app domain names – May 8 at 4 PM on Stage 6
According to Google, “.app, the web’s first secure-only open top-level domain (TLD) for mobile apps and developers, is launching on May 8.” In this Session, Ben McIlwain and Adrienne Porter Felt will talk about use cases for .app domain names, HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), best practices for secure website development, and the unique security benefits of .app domains thanks to TLD-wide HSTS.
Wear OS – May 9 at 10:30 AM on Stage 8
Led by Rati Agrawal, Tom Rudick, and Dennis Troper, this Session will be about the latest developments for Wear OS (formerly Android Wear). The description says, “Come to this session to… hear about new product features, and learn best practices to create Wear OS apps.”
Google Photos – May 9 at 10:30 AM on Stage 5
As the company points out, Google Photos has seen incredible momentum, growing from 0 to 500 million monthly users in just a few years. Google teases that this session will preview some exciting updates to Google Photos. Though it’s not clear what these updates are exactly, the event will be led by Ruchi Bezoles and Ben Greenwood from Google. It will be followed by a Google Photos Office Hour at 3:30 PM the same day.
This schedule will continuously be updated up until the event, so make sure to check back often. And if you will be attending, don’t forget to reserve your seats for Keynote Sessions; for those of you who couldn’t attend in person, Google reassures that most Keynotes and Sessions will be livestreamed.
