What’s new on HBO Max in January 2022: Peacemaker and more

What’s new onHBO Maxin January 2022? Well, we’ll get a show called Peacemaker, which is a new DC Comics-based spin-off of The Suicide Squad, a Harry Potter reunion special, and new series from the HBO mothership.

Peacemaker Season 1 (January 13)
The Suicide Squad movie was not the big hit that Warner Bros. thought it would become when the DC Comics-based superhero film debuted in August 2021. It still got some excellent reviews, and now writer-director James Gunn is in charge of this HBO Max spin-off series. John Cena returns as the title character, a skilled assassin who loves peace so much, he will kill everyone to make it happen. This series takes place immediately after the end of The Suicide Squad, where we saw Peacemaker in a hospital bed being recruited by some ex-Task Force X operatives. He joins a new team to take on the bad guys.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (January 1)
This really doesn’t need much of an introduction. Harry Potter movie fans can enjoy this reunion special on HBO Max, in which members of the film’s cast get back together to discuss the making of those eight movies and share some never-before-revealed secrets.
The Guided Age Season 1 (January 24)
Julian Fellowes, the man who created the hit historical drama Downton Abbey, tries once again with this new HBO series. Set in the late 19th century, it centers on a young orphaned woman who travels to New York City to live with her very rich aunts, played by Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski. The woman tries to navigate her way through the social circles of NYC, where old and new money collide.
Search Party Season 5 (January 7)
This sitcom has a small but devoted following, and now HBO Max brings this cult favorite back for a fifth and final season. The season begins with our main character Dory (Alia Shawkat) recovering from the events of the previous season, where she was kidnapped by Chip Wreck. As part of her recovery, she believes she can start a new nationwide trend towards enlightenment. However, her close friends just think she’s crazy.

Here’s the full list of what’s being added to HBO and HBO Max in January 2022, along with a list of what’s leaving the service this month. It includes some season premieres from the HBO mothership, including season two of both Euphoria and The Righteous Gemstones, along with the final first season episodes of Station Eleven. Plus, a couple of classic TV shows are added to HBO Max: ER and Fringe.
