Xiaomi India says 200,000 Redmi Note 7 units sold in a flash

It is no secret that theXiaomi Redmi Noteseries is very popular in the Indian smartphone market. The latest phone in the line-up went on sale yesterday and the company already seems to have run out of stock.

Manu Kumar Jain, VP at Xiaomi India, took to Twitter to announce that the company had produced 200,000 units of theRedmi Note 7and these have all sold out.

For a device that is known to be a hot selling commodity, that number definitely seems to be on the smaller side. Xiaomi has had ongoing issues with maintaining proper inventory for their most popular smartphones and the flash sale model adopted by the company is one of the top user complaints. The much more excitingRedmi Note 7 Prowill also be using the flash sale model when it goes on sale later this month.

Of course, Xiaomi isn’t the only company tooting its own horn as far as sales are concerned.Realmemade a similar announcement last year when the company sold out 370,000 units over the course of two days, with 200,000 unitsclaimedin one day. realme (backed by OPPO) announced their latest phone, therealme 3,earlier this week and is targeting the Redmi Note 7 head-on. It will be interesting to see how well the realme 3 does when it goes on sale on March 12.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on the Redmi Note 7 Pro which goes on sale on March 13. The phone has aSnapdragon 675chipset, a48MPcamera with a Sony IMX586 sensor and a very appealing price point of  13,999 rupees (~$200). And it’s shaping up to be the most well-equipped smartphone in the sub-20,000 rupee (~$280) segment.
