Xiaomi sold over a million Redmi 5A units in less than a month in India

Business has been booming for Xiaomi in India. Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi’s Managing Director,has announced on Twitterthat the company sold over a million units of theRedmi 5Ain less than a month.
What makes the smartphone so popular is its great price-performance ratio. It comes with a 5-inch HD display, the Snapdragon 425 chipset, and 2 or 3 GB of RAM. It also features a primary 13 MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture, packs a 3,000 mAh battery, and runsAndroid 7.1 Nougatwith MIUI 9 on top. You can get the 2 GB/16 GB variant for only ₹4,999, while the 3 GB/32 GB model will set you back ₹6,999.

The Redmi 5A went on sale in India on December 7. It’s the successor to theRedmi 4A, which was also extremely popular — Xiaomi sold four million units within eight months of its launch.
It looks likeXiaomi’s big bet on Indiais paying off. The company has invested a lot of money to expand its business in the country, opening twomanufacturing plantsin 2017. It entered the market less than four years ago and is on track to become the largest smartphone manufacturer in terms of sales in the country.

It currently shares the number one spot with Samsung, each holding23.5 percent of the market. Based on the success of the Redmi 5A and high demand for the other smartphones in its lineup, Xiaomi could soon overtake the South Korean tech giant.
