You can now use your voice to set location-based reminders on Google Home

June 24, 2025

Even though you can set location-based reminders on your phone, you could previously not do so on yourGoogle Homedevice. That changed today, whenGoogleannounced you can use your voice to set location-based reminders on Google Home.

With the feature, you can say things like, “Hey Google, set a reminder to pick up more coffee at the grocery store.” Assuming your phone has location services turned on, Google Assistant will send you a reminder once you arrive at the location.

You can be more specific with the kind of store for the reminder, such as a Walmart or Starbucks. Assistant will still remind you what to get, regardless of which Walmart of Starbucks location you visit.

This compares favorably to Siri, which asks you to specify which location you want to be reminded at. Speaking of which, location-based reminders work with Android and iOS devices.

Unfortunately, the feature seems to be U.S. only for the time being. Also, it is not yet available for non-English speakers. Finally, you still have to choose your wording carefully. AsSlashGearnoted, not only can you not define aspecificstore, but Assistant might not be able to recognize the difference between a general reminder and a location-based one.

Even with the limitations, Home and Assistant have only gotten smarter over time. Home was recently updated to supporthands-free callingin the UK andshow the weatheron your Chromecast. Meanwhile, third-parties cancustomize Assistant voice commandsand performmultiple Assistant actions at once, with the latter featuring many limitations.
