You will soon be able to buy audiobooks on Google Play

July 09, 2025

Already home to apps, movies, TV shows, musics, books, and more,Google Playlooks to add another category in the form of audiobooks.

9to5Googlereports that a banner seems to have shown up for users using the mobile Google Play app and the desktop version. In both places, the banner states that audiobooks are available and that folks can get 50 percent off their first title.

At the moment, the link does not appear to work, and the banner does not state exactly when audiobooks will be available. If the banner is any indication, they should appear sometime in the near future, perhaps as early as this week.

Audiobooks are already available through Google Play’s music library, though the implementation is a bit haphazard. With the upcoming update, there will be a dedicated portion of Google Play, which will keep things more organized.

Then again, things will get a bit more cluttered with the addition of an audiobooks section. Some sort of UI redesign could help with that, but asAndroid Policealso reports, it helps that Google Play Books looks to get the same update.

Either way, the update allowsGoogleto keep pace with other ecosystems. Audiobooks have dedicated sections inApple‘s iBooks andAmazon‘s Kindle stores, so it was only a matter of time until Google would catch up.
