ZTE Axon 9 Pro has slightly different specs in new TENAA listing

August 10, 2025

AtIFA 2018in Berlin last week, we got our first look at theZTE Axon 9 Pro, the follow-up to theZTE Axon 7. Along with the phone’s reveal (check outour hands-on with the device here), we saw the official spec sheet of the upcoming flagship smartphone.

Today, we havethe Chinese TENAA listing for the Axon 9 Pro, and there are some strange anomalies.

The front of the ZTE Axon 9 Pro.

As a refresher, here are the official specs of the Axon 9 Pro that ZTE supplied during IFA 2018:

The specs listed on the TENAA website line up with the ones listed above, with two major exceptions: in RAM and internal storage. On the TENAA listing, there are both 6GB and 8GB variants, not just 6GB as the specs above would lead us to believe. Also, there are two additional storage options aside from the 128GB version: a 64GB version and a 256GB version.

Now, it’s not exactly unique for OEMs to release different variants of the same device. Most recently, we saw two versions launch of theSamsung Galaxy Note 9: one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and another with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. But it is certainly peculiar that ZTE didn’t make this information clear during its launch of the Axon 9 Pro.

It is also possible that the TENAA listing is wrong and there is only one variant of the ZTE Axon 9 Pro. Or, it could be that ZTE will eventually launch lower-end and more high-end versions of the Axon 9 Pro at some point in the future but filed the regulatory TENAA listing with all the variants at once.

Whatever the case, it’s not often that we see anomalies like this between official specs from a manufacturer and the filed specs with regulatory agencies. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
